Torie Bowie (32) was found passed away in her home in bed on May 2 after police received reports of her not been seen or heard from for several days.

According to an autopsy report obtained by multiple outlets, Torie was estimated to be around eight months pregnant and undergoing labor when she died.

It’s not known what specifically led to her tragic passing and that of her full term baby, but officials say possible complications included respiratory distress and eclampsia.

Eclampsia is a rare complication of preeclampsia-a disorder in which the pregnant women suffer from high blood pressure and protein in their urine. The condition may lead to comas, seizures and death.

It is noteworthy to mention, Black women die due to pregnancy-related complications at a rate that is three-times higher than their white peers, with most of the deaths being preventable.

Increased awareness and attention is needed for Black women in regards to maternal and infant health. We are sending our deepest condolences to Tore Bowie’s family and friends at this time.
