Russell Simmons has recently taken to social media to defend actress Taraji P. Henson in response to backlash she’s faced for visiting him in Bali. The visit, which took place earlier this month, has ignited a firestorm of criticism directed at Henson, primarily due to Simmons’ controversial past.

Simmons, who has faced multiple allegations of sexual assault, shared a photo on social media featuring himself and Henson during her trip. The image was accompanied by a heartfelt caption expressing his gratitude for Henson’s friendship and support. Despite his positive words, the post drew significant criticism from social media users, who accused Henson of endorsing or ignoring the serious allegations against Simmons.

In response to the growing criticism, Simmons has publicly defended Henson, urging critics to stop targeting her. “Knock it off,” Simmons said in a recent social media post. He emphasized that Henson’s visit was a gesture of friendship and support, rather than an endorsement of his past. “I love you, I just don’t want my friends attacked,” Simmons continued. “I wish you all the best. But just leave my friends alone. Don’t attack my friends for visiting me.”

Simmons, a prominent figure in the music industry and former CEO of Def Jam Recordings, used the platform to reiterate his stance on the allegations against him. He stated that he has never been formally charged or questioned by law enforcement regarding these claims. “Still today, I have never spoken to a policeman about anything,” Simmons asserted in a video clip. He further claimed that he has not been formally charged or questioned in relation to the allegations, and mentioned that he has voluntarily taken multiple lie detector tests, including those conducted by the Chairman of the Polygraph Association, to prove his innocence.

In his social media commentary, Simmons also addressed his critics’ claims that he fled to Bali to evade potential legal repercussions. He dismissed these claims as unfounded and reiterated his plans to return to the U.S. soon. “This idea that I’m hiding is stupid,” Simmons remarked, adding that he will be back in New York next week.

Simmons also took the opportunity to criticize those who have expressed support for former President Donald Trump, despite similar allegations against him. “But yet you stand next to Donald Trump,” he pointed out, questioning the consistency of their moral judgments.

In his initial post about Henson’s visit, Simmons praised her for her positive influence and presence. “People when you have friends like this, you are truly blessed!!!!,” he wrote. “Everyone comes to Gdas [Health & Wellness Resort] for healing; some people exude healing energy. You are one of those.” He continued, “You make everyone happy just with your presence. Love you baby girl; you are back home safe now and already you are missed. Until we meet again darling, only love. P.S. you mean so much to so many people, keep inspiring us all!!!”

As the controversy unfolds, Simmons’ defense highlights the complexities surrounding personal associations and public perceptions, particularly when they intersect with serious allegations. Henson’s visit, while intended as a gesture of support, has clearly sparked a broader discussion about accountability, friendship, and the public’s response to high-profile controversies.
