Kendrick Lamar and the ‘South Park’ Team Keep Fans Waiting as Their New Comedy Gets Pushed Back Again
If you’ve been waiting to see Kendrick Lamar flex his comedy chops, you’ll have to hold on a little longer. The rapper’s highly anticipated comedy movie with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone has hit yet another delay, according to Paramount Pictures.

Originally slated to drop in July 2025, the film’s release was moved to March 20, 2026, and now it’s been postponed again with no new premiere date in sight. Paramount and pgLang, Lamar’s creative company, confirmed the news and said they’re “working hard at finishing the movie.”

What We Know About the Project
The yet-to-be-titled film is a collaboration between Paramount Pictures, pgLang, and longtime South Park producers Parker and Stone. The script was written by Vernon Chatman, best known for his work on The Eric Andre Show and South Park.

Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free, pgLang’s co-founder and Lamar’s longtime collaborator, are producing the film alongside Parker and Stone. It’s described as a live-action comedy that blends music, culture, and social commentary — so basically, it sounds like exactly the kind of project Kendrick would jump into.

At this point, there’s no official title or teaser, but the hype has been building since Paramount first announced it in early 2022.

Why the Delay?
According to the studio, the postponement comes down to scheduling conflicts. Lamar has been balancing the film with his music career, including a co-headlining world tour with SZA, while Parker and Stone continue working on South Park’s 28th season.

Translation: everyone involved has been booked and busy.

Still, Paramount says production is in motion, and the creative team is making sure the movie lands exactly the way they want it to. “We’re working hard at finishing the movie,” pgLang and Parker County said in a joint statement.

A Big Year for Kendrick
Even with the delays, Kendrick has been stacking wins all year. He headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, picked up five Grammys at the 2025 ceremony, and recently led the 2026 Grammy nominations with nine nods for his latest project, Not Like Us.

Between the music, pgLang’s growing influence, and this film with some of comedy’s biggest names, it’s safe to say Kendrick is playing the long game.
