One of hip hop’s most iconic films is getting a second life on the small screen.

50 Cent has officially secured the rights to Paid in Full and is turning the 2002 cult classic into a television series. He’s bringing Cam’ron along for the ride as a co-executive producer. If that sounds major, it’s because it is.

The original movie told the story of Harlem’s street legends and quickly became a staple in Black cinema. Now, with 50’s power in TV and Cam’ron’s legacy tied directly to the film, this reboot has serious potential.

50 announced the news on Instagram, writing that this one is personal and very special to him. Cam’ron also confirmed the move with a video of his own. True to his signature style, he kept it confident and a little cocky. “Congratulations to me,” he said. “I’m your new boss and your old boss, and you’re proud of it.”

Dame Dash, who co-produced the original Paid in Full with Jay-Z, responded shortly after. He did not hold back. In a video posted to Instagram, Dame seemed irritated by the project moving forward without his involvement. He congratulated Cam’ron in a way that did not feel entirely sincere, and added a few pointed remarks about people chasing clout through old projects.

There is definitely some tension in the background, but fans are mostly excited to see the film brought back in a new format. 50 Cent has already built a solid reputation in the TV world with shows like Power, BMF, and Raising Kanan. Adding Paid in Full to his resume makes sense.

Cam’ron, who played Rico in the original, brings authenticity to the project that can’t be manufactured. With both of them behind the wheel, this could end up being one of the most talked about shows in hip hop television.

Unbiased Take:
There’s a lot of nostalgia and ego wrapped into this project, but the core story of Paid in Full still resonates. If handled right, this reboot could be a smart way to introduce the culture to a new generation while giving longtime fans something to talk about again.
